Jameson Black Barrel Is The Perfect Balance Between Price And Quality
Jameson Black Barrel Select Reserve is the pinnacle of great price to quality ratio, an Irish whiskey of excellent quality while still being affordable enough to be drunk on a regular basis. Your entry level Jameson is aged somewhere between 5 and 7 years but the Black Barrel is aged for an average of 12; this means that the youngest whiskey present in the blend is at least 12 years old, with some components being considerably older.
Smooth and mellow like traditional Jameson, but with a richer, deeper flavour and longer finish, Jameson Black Barrel is a blend of very rare grain whiskey and pot still whiskey matured in bourbon and sherry casks. Like most Irish whiskey, this is triple distilled but the difference comes from the fact that the bourbon barrels are flame charred twice to produce the distinctive rich flavours. This is a time consuming and painstaking process but the end result is well worth the effort!
It takes years of skill and experience to select the whiskey that makes up this intriguing and great value blend; it says something that this was a limited release only made one day of the year when this was first released a few years ago.
I get butterscotch and creamy, toffee fudge that is most likely from the rare grain whiskey contained in the blend. There are also peppery notes from the pot still and ripe fruits like nectarines, apricot and papaya from the sherry cask aging.
This is certainly more pronounced than your standard Jameson with spicy, nutty notes and vanilla sweetness from the time spent in charred oak barrels. A burst of flavours combine to produce a creamy, luscious taste experience with the special fruity sweetness from the grain remaining consistent throughout.
A deserving long finish with fruit and wood spices lingering in perfect harmony. This rather fantastic Jameson whiskey delivers an extremely rich, mellow and luxurious taste experience.
