The forces of darkness are rejoicing this week as Arran's The Devil's Punch Bowl Chapter 3: Fiendish Finale is released to an unsuspecting public. This release completes the unholy trinity of single malts that began in 2012 with the original Devil's Punch Bowl. This was followed last year with the Chapter 2 release and this week sees the conclusion of the occult series. Many strong willed individuals have already been tempted into taking the Devil's dram to their bosom and this release will no doubt make their dark hearts skip a beat (that's if they beat at all!). Those of you who have managed to resist the urge to drink with Lucifer so far will be sorely tested as this release is an absolute pleasure to behold!
We have had the pleasure of sipping the forbidden whisky and, despite it having damned us to an eternity of torment, it is very good (or should that be bad?) indeed! Below are the notes taken from the fevered ramblings of our resident whisky guru who has now been reduced to a gibbering wreck!
Nose: A definite hit of chocolate and fruit (peaches possibly?) combined with floral notes.
Palate: The mixture of different finishes is evident here as the whisky takes you on complex journey. There is an underlying sweetness and vanilla taste to the whole affair along with Arran's trademark citrus flavour. Floral notes soon yield to a spicy chocolate hit that tingles the taste buds nicely along with a hint of cinnamon. Very enjoyable indeed!
Finish: The finish is long as you try to make sense of the sensory overload on your first sip. Soon you will come to crave the lingering embrace and pick up the luscious sweetened spices and citrus that draws you to drink again.
James MacTaggart, the Devil's right hand imp and Master Distiller, has scoured the deepest darkest recesses of Arran's dungeon warehouse in order to hand select the correct whiskys for this dark ritual. This final release uses the most diverse range of ages and cask types to date to create a truly deep and complex whisky that will steal your eternal soul! James had the following to say, which was recorded upon Satanic parchment, burning the eyes out of our scribe's eyes as he translated the demonic script for us;
“For Chapter 3 of the Devil's Punch Bowl I have chosen a brooding selection of Aran's finest aged Oloroso Sherry Butts which set the scene for the final performance. Notes of distinctive dark chocolate and dried fruits give a satisfying depth and provide the ideal foundation for this last dram with the Devil. The inclusion of French Oak Barriques adds a rich layer of spice and toasted oak to proceedings while the Bourbon barrels bring the sweetness of honey and vanilla."
Of course, this is a limited edition release and it's safe to predict that the whisky will fly out of stock like a bat out of hell! It's practically impossible to find the the first two chapters for sale so we suggest that you lay aside your goodly virtue and succumb to the alluring mistress that is the Devil's Punch Bowl Chapter 3. The good news for all you dark disciples is that we are allowing you to pre-order a bottle of the foreboding single malt so you are guaranteed not to miss out. The Devil wants as many of his disciples to drink his dram as possible so all orders are restricted to one bottle per customer.
This is the Fiendish Finale, dare you drink with the Devil one final time?
