Purple Rain is a funky, flavoursome cocktail with a party-ready flavour, dedicated to the legendary Prince himself. Perfect for an outdoor summer pitcher or a quick weekend treat, it’s incredibly refreshing and delightfully simple to make despite its diverse list of ingredients – which includes the likes of vodka, blue curaçao and grenadine , as well as a handful of other tasty ingredients!
There are many ways to make purple rain, with the flavour easily changeable depending on the mixers you use. In addition to vodka and blue curaçao, you can choose to add gin as well for an extra tipsy treat.
No matter which method you follow, purple rain is distinguished by its sweet, fruity flavour. Citrus notes from the blue curaçao and lemonade pair beautifully with the vodka, while grenadine adds an extra fruity layer to the proceedings.
We’re big fans of this purple rain recipe, as it strikes the perfect balance between being moreish and devilishly boozy – with a rich purple hue that would make Prince proud. Try it out and see for yourself!
Note: this recipe makes a pitcher with roughly 6 servings, but measurement guidance is provided for a single serving as well.
● 180ml of vodka (just over 1 shot per serving)
● 540ml lemonade (90ml per serving)
● 90ml blue curaçao (15ml per serving)
● 45ml grenadine (7.5ml per serving)
To serve:
● Ice
● Slice of lemon to garnish
There you have it – simple and effective!
This cocktail works beautifully when shaken, too – so if you’re making a single serving and/or have a large shaker to hand, simply throw the ingredients in and prep that way.
Fancy mixing it up? Try these ingredient substitutions:
Swap out lemonade for cranberry juice and pineapple juice. If you prefer your cocktails bubble-free and extra fruity, this is the recipe for you. Simply add 270ml of cranberry and 270ml of pineapple juice in place of the lemonade and you’re good to go.
For an extra boozy treat, add 90ml of gin (half a shot per serving) to the proceedings . Be careful with this one, though – it packs a punch!
You can also add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice for a more citrusy flavour.
We hope this purple rain cocktail recipe serves you well – it’s a true favourite that will inject some fruity zest into your next party.
