Dead Mans Finger Rum

Our good friends at the very popular Rum And Crab Shack in St. Ives have, after a long period of deliberation and the arduous task of sampling lots of rum, released Cornwall's first ever spiced rum named Dead Man's Fingers. The Rum And Crab Shack is situated on the harbour front of the picturesque town and serves delicious freshly caught sea food and an amazing selection of quality rums (which they get from us of course!). Bar owner Neythan Hayes and rum co-founder Chris McGuire know a lot about rum; after all, they decided to start a rum bar after a night imbibing the excellent Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva so they obviously know what they are talking about! Dead Man's Fingers has become The Rum And Crab Shacks house rum and Neythan teamed up with Soul Spirits, a small spirits producer based on the remote Lizard Peninsular, to help bring his dream of creating his own rum to fruition. Neythan and his team successfully opened Cornwall's first Rum Shack a few years ago and the establishment has gone from strength to strength in a short space of time. Feeling buoyed by this experience, it was decided that the next logical step was to make their own rum that was influenced by their love of Cornish culture. The end result was launched at the Port Eliot Festival in August 2015 along with a new cocktail called Dead Man's Grip, a delightful mixture made from lemon and lime juice, passion fruit syrup, Benedictine,  peach bitters and egg whites. You can't get more Cornish than saffron cake and the saffron and nutmeg flavours have been combined with more traditional spices, vanilla and raisins; the latter two ingredients paying homage to the Diplomatico rum that started the adventure. Pedro Ximenez ice cream is served at the Rum And Crab Shack and is a firm favourite so this was also included in the mix. The end result is a beautifully smooth spiced rum that can be enjoyed with a mixer or sipped over ice. It's certainly an easy drinking rum and it's easy to imagine a bottle disappearing very rapidly indeed! This is a spirit that's been devised by Cornishmen, marrying the county's culture with a delicious blend of rum from the Caribbean and spiced in the UK; an unusually unique prospect in a market saturated with spiced rum. If you would like to try this rum (and you definitely should!) then you can buy it online here. We are the exclusive online stockists of Dead Man's Fingers and you won't find it anywhere else. Happy drinking pirates!
