Brugal Dry Spiced Rum Is Refreshingly Unsweetened

We all know the drill when it comes to spiced rum; there's often vanilla, lime and varying amounts of spice of course, plus an over prevalent sweetness in the majority of cases. Now if you enjoy that sweetness then that's great (I certainly do on occasion!) but what if you don't have a sweet tooth? Your choices in the spiced rum category are pretty thin on the ground; Kraken and Bristol Black Spiced are about your only options. But what if you don't like dark rum either? Please enter stage left Brugal Dry Spiced Rum from the Domincan Republic, a rum that has been created without the customary sweetness we have come to expect from golden spiced rum. The Domican Republic only have a couple of internationally recognised rum brands and these are the premium Matusalem and Atlantico, both of which are in the £30 plus category. Whilst these are both excellent rums, one might want something a little more inexpensive for mixing long drinks and cocktails with. Brugal are probably the most well known rum distiller from the Dominican and provide us with a choice of entry level rums right  through to ultra premium ones. Luckily, Brugal Dry Spiced falls into the first category and is the perfect accompaniment for ginger beer and apple juice. In fact, it was specifically designed to compliment these other drinks and to be mixed in your favourite rum based cocktails where it delivers gentle warming spice but holds back on the sweetness. Some may even enjoy this neat on the rocks but I imagine this wouldn't suit everyone. Brugal has a long history spanning back to 1888 when it was founded by Spanish immigrant Andrés Brugal Montener . Andrés developed his rum making skills in Cuba before emigrating to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic and starting the Brugal company. This became a family business and by the time Andrés grandchildren took the reigns Brugal was the third largest rum producer in the world.  Brugal rum is produced in the traditional style, double distilled, and matured in American white oak barrels which are stored in a warehouse purposely built in 1920
