THE START OF SALCOMBE GIN

2016 we welcomed our first gin ‘Start Point,’ after 18 months in development. It’s an exceptionally smooth, citrus led London Dry. Named after the local ‘Start Point' lighthouse in Devon, that marked the 19th century voyages of Salcombe Fruit Schooners; ships that carried fruits and spices that inspired ‘Start Point’s great flavour.

Tasting Notes: Red grapefruit with earthy pine notes from Macedonian juniper. Perfectly balanced with warming spiced aromas on the nose. Rich, full and incredibly smooth on the palate, with a touch of earthy sweetness from liquorice and angelica root.

THINGS ARE LOOKING ‘ROSÉ’ - OUR NATURALLY PINK GIN WITH NO ADDED SUGAR

In 2019 ‘Rosé Sainte Marie’ launched; a delicate, fresh and exquisite dry rosé gin. inspired by the South of France. It’s a celebration of adventure, colour and joy. Named after the iconic ‘Sainte Marie’ lighthouse which marks the Southern entrance to the Old Port of Marseille, where 19th century Salcombe Fruit Schooners would load fresh citrus fruits and herbs bound for England’s ports.

Tasting notes: Fragrant fresh lemon peel and Provence herbs are complemented by the natural sweetness of red fruit and the distinctive perfume of white flowers and orange blossom. It is purposefully dry in style, like a Rosé wine.

Best served: On its own over ice or with a premium Indian tonic water and a slice of strawberry to accentuate the bouquet of red fruit or a twist of fresh lemon peel to bring the fragrant citrus to the fore.

1% FOR THE OCEAN – SAVING OUR OCEANS ONE BOTTLE AT A TIME

THE PROCESS

Our gin is handcrafted on ‘Provident’, our striking 450 litre copper pot still which stands proud for all to see at our distillery in Salcombe.

We use the finest of botanicals, hand sourced from around the world, many of which have been traced back to the global maritime trading routes and cargoes once carried by the Salcombe Fruiters. Each of the botanicals we use has a story to tell, none are mass produced, all are traceable to their source and all are picked at their best. We are uncompromisingly fussy about their quality.

Of utmost importance and often overlooked in gin distillation is the quality of the water used for blending. We know that water plays an important part in creating our phenomenally smooth collection of gins which is why we blend our gins with Dartmoor water; some of the softest and purest water in England, sourced from high up in the wilds of Dartmoor National Park.
