Producer Details
The estate grown grapes were discovered in the heart of McLaren Vale by the extraordinary talents of Ant Moore (aka Mr Smith!) Ant was inspired by the name Mr Smith as it summed up his no nonsense approach to simply sourcing some very tasty, great value Shiraz. Australian born and bred, Ant has spent the last ten years of his winemaking career in Marlborough until now, where hes created this dark and brooding Shiraz from his home turf.
In the Vineyard
The Mr Smith vineyards are situated in Mclaren Vale area in South Australia. It is a established vineyard, consisting solely of old vine shiraz.
In the Winery
The fruit is picked either in the early morning or in the evening to ensure it is cool when harvested, and transported to the winery quickly to ensure the rich, ripe berry flavours are optimal. Irrigation and canopy management is done manually to develop the red berry and spice flavours that this area is renowned for. Mr Smith Shiraz was whole fruit basket pressed off early oak and then aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak to give it a rich and layered palate but without the jammy characteristics.
