Nestled on the high slopes of Victoria's Great Dividing Range in the stunningly beautiful 'Victorian High Country' 1 hour North of Melbourne, Lost Valley Winery is set amongst majestic boulders of pink granite at a lofty 450 metres altitude with sweeping views of Mount Buller, first growth forests of Australian Ghost Gums and bordered by the trout filled King Parrot Creek below.
Almost forgotten by modern development, this land was called the "Valley of the Thousand Hills" by its indigenous aboriginal inhabitants; whilst the name for the Tallarook Forest that adjoins Lost Valley Winery, comes from the language of the Natramboolok Tribe meaning "Call of the Wattlebird".
An almost perfect vintage, hot at the right times, meaning the vines come under the necessary stress during the growing period that leads to smaller berries and subsequent intensity of flavour. Wine: Straw yellow in colour with brilliant golden hues. Aromas of passion-fruit and Nashi pears are enhanced by orange-blossom and subdued citrus notes. The palate delivers crisp, balanced flavours of lemon zest and a hint of 'spritz' on the tongue, followed by a singular spice finish becoming golden and honeyed with age. Cellaring potential of up to 10 years. The perfect match to all crustaceans, game/shell fish, vibrant cheeses and assertively flavoured risotto. Bottled using screw-cap closures to maintain top wine quality and purity of flavours. Alc/Vol.14 % Residual Sugar 2.2gms/lt P.H.3.14
Lost Valley Cortese was chosen by leading Wine Writer and International Judge - Jeni Port as one of Australia's top 10 "MUST DRINK" "cult" wines of the past ten years.
