Description

Seven generations and nearly two centuries have passed since the founding of Domaines Schlumberger. In 1810, Nicolas Schlumberger established his vineyards on the renowned, sunny slopes above the town of Guebwiller. Through successive generations the holding has grown from the original few small plots to one of Frances largest and finest vineyards. Seventh generation Alain Beydon-Schlumberger runs the domaine.

Grapes

100% Riesling

Viticulture

Riesling is Alsaces noblest and finest grape variety.

The Riesling is mainly planted in the Bollenberg plot and also in the Grand Cru vineyards of Saering and Kessler. Some younger vines are planted in the Grand Cru Kitterle plot.

Wine Making

After slow pneumatic pressing the must is left to settle on the lees. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled tuns for between 1 and 4 months. The wine is then left to age for a further 6 to 8 months on the lees.

Tasting Notes

Bright lemon colour. The nose shows classic steely riesling aromas allied to some ripe white peach notes. The palate is quite full, with great purity and depth and with crisp acid balancing the richness. The finish is full of ripe stone fruit and is of great length.

Food Matching

Seafood, Caviar, Sushi, Fois Grais, Pork, Chicken, Veal, Medium Spiced Curry, Chinese, and Thai Dishes.
