De Bortoli 21 Years Old Boys Tawny has been awarded the Australian Fortified Trophy in the 2010 International Wine Challenge in London. The IWC is the worlds most prestigious and influential independent wine competition.
Deep toffee with golden hues
Complex mocha and aged rancio notes on the nose
Luscious with complex nut and aged rancio flavours and firm drying finish
Some years ago De Bortoli acquired unique parcels of very old fortified wines from Rutherglen in Victoria and the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Combined with our substantial existing stocks, De Bortoli has one of the most extensive collections of aged material maturing in barrel in Australia. Old Boys is drawn from these reserves and blended to an average age of 21 years.
Alc/Vol : 19.0 %
The wine has been aged in barrel and is designed for current consumption but will keep in the bottle for several years.
Enjoy after a meal with a platter of cheeses, dried fruits and nuts.
Sweet Medium Bodied
"This is an average of 21 years old, making it the rough equivalent of a 20 year old tawny Port, but in a softer, fruiter style. Brown sugar and baking spices mark the nose, followed by flavors of fig, date, cinnamon and walnut. It's full bodied and richly concentrated, spicy and warming on the finish."
Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast (USA), January 2011
An attractive, well freshened, nutty tawny with balanced sweetness and some rancio complexity
Fortifieds, Winewise, June 2010
"High-quality tawny, with potent rancio; intense and long, with spiced biscuit and cake flavours; balanced acidity."
, James Hallidays Wine Companion 2010, September 2009
"Nectar! Fabulous tawny with an abundance of fruit aromas, perfectly balanced rancio notes, lovely old nutty oak, drying tannins, excellent spirit and cleansing acidity on a long, lingering finish."
