(glass not included!)Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha, is the most daring creation of the new phase of the winery. It is the result of new technologies that have been applied but without disregarding the wise tradition of wine making in the region. It has a dark ruby colour with shades of purple. At the nose there is a rich aroma of ripe berries with hints of floral tones typical of the Garnacha, a unique variety. In the mouth, it is a full bodied rich wine with a taste of blackberries, strawberries and hints of leather, vanilla and plums. It is perfectly combined with a sweet and pleasant tannin that leads to a long, balanced and smooth finish.
Producer Details Bodegas Borsao was establised in 2001 and is a collection of three of the most progressive co-operative cellars in the Campo de Borja zone southeast of Rioja. Grapes come from 620 member growers covering 2,500 hectares, nearly a third of the region's total. Vineyards lie in the undulating foothills of the Moncayo mountain, up to 700m above sea level. In this rather severe and arid climate, with hot dry days and cool nights, Garnacha thrives and represents 70% of total production. New varieties such as Syrah, Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon have also adapted well to this rugged and stony terrain. The entry level Borsao varietals, as you might expect from a well-equipped cellar of this size, are outstanding examples of easy-to-drink inexpensive wines. Increasingly though, Borsao are becoming better known for their premium wines, in particular the iconic, multi award winning Tres Picos. In the Vineyard The grapes come from vineyards that are between 35 and 40 years old. Located on uneven terrain at an altitude of 600 to 700 metres, these vineyards yield under four and a half tons of grape per hectare. The 2005 Tres Picos Garnacha is purple coloured with a cherry-scented nose that roars from the glass. It is intensely fruity, with terrific depth and concentration, oodles of sweet fruit and terrific length. This wine which can be likened to cherry pie in a glass, is awesome value. 91 points."
