Soulful wine made using the best organic practices - more Tarrantino than Disney.

Tasting Notes

A medium ruby red, ripe with sweet dark fruits, black olive and liquorice notes. Rich and dense, this wine shows great expression of the terroir (garrigue & herbs) and a firm tannic structure with spicy layers.

Producer Details

Purchased in 2001 following an 18 year search for the perfect terroir, the estate is the brainchild of English born winemaker, Gavin Crisfield and his wife Amanda. La Sauvageonne, meaning the wild one, covers 32 hectares north-west of Montpellier, between Clermont lHerault and Lodeve in the Terrasses du Larzac (AOC Coteaux du Languedoc). The vineyards are situated on dramatic hillsides ranging from 150m to 400m above sea level, providing diverse terroirs to suite the wide range of varietals planted, including Sauvignon Blanc for the white, Cinsault and Grenache for the rose and Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, Carignan for the Rhone style blends, and Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc for their Bordeaux blend. The pinnacle of the range is the Puech du Glen blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache from the estates highest vineyards. The key to La Sauvageonnes unique style comes from their minimal intervention approach, small yield and using the most appropriate techniques to allow the wines to express themselves. For the reds this means concrete vats, as Crisfield doesnt feel stainless steel is right for these wines, and a combination of 600l new and old French oak barrels.
