A limited edition Muscadet Sevre et Maine sur lie using only the wild yeasts which occur naturally on the skins of the freshly picked grapes. Temperamental they can be but with the right conditions and handling can produce an exquisite intensity of perfume and purity of flavour as in this example. Stunning aromas of elderflower with a hint of fresh bread, the flavour is instantly zingy with mid palate fullness rounded off by a dry but fruity finish.
Domaine les Grands Presbytres is based in St Fiacre, southeast of Nantes, at the mouth of the beautiful River Loire and was established by Nelly Marzelleau's grandfather in the 1950's. Due to the high proportion of flint in the soil, Dt Diacre is considered one of the best sites for Muscadet Svre et Maine.Nelly Marzellau runs the estate and is passionate about what she does. She qualified in vinification and winemakeing top of her class and completed her first vinification in 1985, aged 18. The winery is in the best sub-region between the rivers Sevre and Maine, where the soils are layered with 'orthogneiss', a cracked mineral rich rock. Wines are made from vines close to 50 years in age - a rarity in the area as most are dug up after 40 years. All of her wine is bottled 'sur lie' ensuring prolonged contact with fine lees, enhancing the overall richness. The depth of flavour from these wines is amazing!
