Monkey 47 is a super-premium gin composed of only the freshest, handpicked ingredients, with at least one third of them obtained from the Black Forest, complimented by spices from India and traditional London Dry notes.
The old apothecary style bottle and hand-drawn label have garnered recognition worldwide and brought Monkey 47 Gin nine design awards.
In 2011, the premium gin was also awarded the World Spirits Award Gold - Gin, and Gold Best in Class Gin Worldwide at the International Wine and Spirits Competition London.
One sip of this traditional yet exotic gin and you are transported into the life of one Montgomery Collins, the originator of this unique spirit. He lived for adventure from a childhood in India, to a military career in Berlin, to his later years spent in the Black Forest. The compilation in this gin reads like an autobiography of his life on your palate.
The process of distillation for Monkey 47 is unrivalled and complex. Using both distillation and steam extraction, the master distiller is able to regulate flavour and selectively highlight individual notes.
A third of the botanicals come from the Black Forest: spruce, elderflower, blackthorn, and bramble leaves, to name just a few. The chief attraction, however, is the use of fresh cranberries as a Black Forest secret weapon.
The quality of these ingredients is fully brought to bear through masterly distillation and maturation in traditional earthenware containers for three months until it is perfectly balanced, then crisp Black Forest spring water is added to dilute the spirit to a drinkable 47% ABV.
Whether with tonic, as a sling, martini, or gimlet the unique and complex taste of MONKEY 47 is an ideal basis for both classic and more eccentric cocktails such as a Monkeypolitan, the recipe for which were happy to share. The distinct and pure scent of juniper, tangy and crisp citrus notes, a sweet, flowery aroma, with a hint of peppery spices, subtle bitter fruit notes of cranberries, and a deep and harmoniously balanced complexity e pluribus unum. MONKEY 47 is truly full of character.
