A deliciously pure, fresh and classic Riesling. Just off-dry in style with initially fine, taut, floral characters - filled out with attractive gently developing secondary flavours of apricots and minerals. The bright acidity lifts the finish to give almost perfect poise.
With over 34ha of well-sited vineyard, Markus is one of the middle Mosels most important growers. During the difficult years when the value of German vineyards fell dramatically, Markus had the conviction, knowledge and foresight to take advantage of the low prices and bought up a significant number of small parcels in the finest parts of the best vineyards. With vertiginous slopes, slatey soils and particularly long, slow ripening periods, a gifted producer can weave together that incredibly tense and vibrant mix of minerality, acidity, sweetness and ripeness. Markus Molitor excels at this and is without doubt amongst the very best. From a selection of almost sixty wines from numerous vineyards, every possible Pradikat level and a range of vintages we hope we have brought you the best. Markus Molitor were awarded 'Best German Producer of Off-dry Riesling' in the Gault Millau German Wine Guide 2004.
In the Vineyard
Haus Klosterberg is produced from a blend of Riesling grapes from different vineyards on the Molitor Estate in the Middle Mosel. The fruit is sourced mainly from the Klosterberg vineyard, situated directly behind the winery, which has stony free draining soil. Vineyard practices include professional pruning and careful soil management.
In the Winery
The grapes are gently crushed and allowed to soak on the skins for a few hours to extract all the aromas and minerals. The must is fermented naturally without the addition of cultured yeast. Part of the blend is fermented in large oak barrels.
Delicious with light Summer salads, pasta prima vera or delicately spiced thai food
