Description
The distillery was first built overlooking the Sound of Jura in 1810. The distillery draws its water from Loch a'Bhaile-Mhargaidh' (the market loch), a thousand feet (300m) above Craighouse, the island's only village. The distillery's machinery and buildings were owned by different individuals and a dispute between the two led to its closure for over fifty years in 1913. It was effectively redesigned and rebuilt before its reopening in the 1960s.
TASTING NOTE
Colour: Pale gold.
WITHOUT WATER
:Nose: Toasted malt with a sweet frutiness (pears). Freshness reminiscent of morning dew.
Palate: Mouth watering, spicy and sweet (fudge). Fresh green apples.
WITH WATER
:Nose: Fruity and fresh (sea air). A light ester note is also present.
Palate: Initially spicy, but becomes smooth and sweet. A slight bitterness - dark chocolate.
Body: Light.
Finish: Long.
Cask Type(s): Refill Sherry hogsheads.
Whisky Style: Light and delicate.
