The nose shows vanilla and plum with a touch of bracken. The palate is silky smooth, with more bracken and some bright cherry fruit. Good structure, with balanced tannins and well integrated oak create a wine full of body with a dark red fruit backbone.
With prime vineyards in Casablanca, Maipo, Rapel and Bio-Bio and access to the newest and best clones in Chile (through Jose Guilisasti, brother of Emilianas General Manager Rafael who runs Chiles foremost nursery) Emiliana is a very substantial and impressive organisation. Emiliana is one of the worlds most important producers of Organic and Biodynamic wines. They have a total of 1,117 hectares under vine of which 750ha are IMO and Demeter certified organic. As South Americas largest organic producer, their spectacular vineyard and winery at Los Robles has the added benefit of being biodynamic and features the sensory delights of roaming Alpacas, dung heaps and dynamised biodynamic mixtures to treat the vineyards.
In the Vineyard
The grapes were grown in the Maipo Valley. Warm summers and cold, wet winters result in good vine development. Aged for 6 months, 50% in French oak.
In the Winery
6 months in oak, of which 50% is French.
Great with grilled red meats, strong cheeses and well seasoned terrines.
