Description
The fruit for this wine comes from a variety of vineyards in the Awatere Valley, featuring a spread of vine ages and viticultural techniques. The common thread through all the vineyards is close attention to vine balance and health. This enables the vineyard to optimise the site expression and unique characteristics of the Awatere Valley vineyard.
Winemaking
Hand harvested bunches were destemmed and crushed. For maturation, the juice was then left on the lees for two months until it was racked to ferment in a tank. Subsequently, the resulting wine was gently fined out and filtered before bottling.
Winemaker's Comment
Located in Marlboroughs cooler Awatere Valley, Clifford Bay has a direct concentrating effect on varietal flavours in the associated vineyards. This wine is a classic example of vibrant Sauvignon Blanc displaying intense aromas of nettle, currants, gooseberry and fresh lime intertwined with exotic fruit notes. An explosive, concentrated palate gives way to a long mineral and steely finish.
