Chateau Fontpinot is the house at the heart of Cognac Frapins 315 hectare Domaine. This cognac is able to claim the Chateau name because it is harvested, distilled, matured and bottled on the Domaine. This is exceptionally rare in the Cognac region and gives Frapin complete control over the production of this fine aged cognac.
With its warm golden colour this is a delicate and elegant Grande Champagne. Initially the nose has cedar wood aromas that soon disappear to reveal the floral bouquet with notes of vanilla, hawthorn and wild flowers. Whilst in the glass it will develop further showing very long lasting aromas, such as crystallised apricot, orange, port and the famous Rancio (particular to old cognacs, which appears during ageing, after 20 years.) The palate is rich and smooth with hazelnut, almond and dried fruit flavours with lemon and candied peel freshness giving elegant and balanced characteristic. The complex characteristics of this cognac are due in part to its distillation on the lees and sympathetic ageing. The cognac is bottled at an optimum strength of 41% by volume.
